FURTHER CONTEXT

In our early years, we focused on community building & beer creation but environment was not high enough on the list. Since then we have made steps towards circular economy starting in 2015 and have put together an internal team called GREEN SQUAD to chase opportunities to do better, tracking our CO2 emissions via CO2 Logic, and our water consumption/liter of beer. Our new brewery is built with a sustainability mindset aiming to be self-sufficient in electricity thanks to the use of solar energy & the biomethanisation of our spent grain to create more electricity. We’ll also reuse the hot water generated by the production, instead of fossil energy, for the heating of the entire building.

We want to reach carbon neutrality by the end of this year, and become carbon negative by the end of 2023, compensating twice as much as our annual CO2 production & compensating for the CO2 production since we started operating in 2013. Goals such as zero-waste brewery & plastic-free company seems now out of reach in our industry but it is not a reason to not shoot for this. Our goal will be to reduce our consumption per liter of water, gaz, electricity, organic waste & plastic by at least 10% per year during this decade.

To echo Yvon Chouinard’s words, there is little chance we’ll ever deserve to be called a “sustainable brewery”, clearly producing more good than harm for the planet, but it’s not a reason to stop trying & in the meantime we can thrive to be a “responsible brewery”, making all efforts to become sustainable. This is a humbling path & we’ll come back to you, our community, with annual reports on our progress.
